Temporary Zoo Closure

FRESNO, CA (October 14, 2004) At approximately 10:30 am today the Chaffee Zoo resident Orangutan Siabu decided to explore the outside of her enclosure. The mischievous ape that she is unraveled the nylon net from the support cable on the exhibit and created a hole large enough to crawl through. She returned on her own to the exhibit within 10 minutes with no harm done. Zookeepers and zoo maintenance staff made repairs immediately to the exhibit.

For safety reasons visitors were escorted out of the Zoo during the escape but were allowed to return as soon as a careful inspection was made.
