Refugee Housing Liaison Hired

FRESNO, CA (September 30 , 2004) The City of Fresno is pleased to announce the hiring of Fue Houa Thao as Refugee Housing Liaison. The position was created to assist the estimated 3,000 Hmong refugees coming to Fresno from the Wat Tham Krabok camp in Thailand. Specifically, Ms. Thao will be assisting the refugee families with their housing needs, including identifying available affordable rental units and working with the Hmong Resettlement Task Force, a collaboration of community based organizations involved in orientation and resettlement services for this population.

Ms. Thao was herself born in a refugee camp in Thailand and came to Fresno at the age of 8. She has spent the majority of her professional career working with the Southeast Asian population for various Fresno non-profit agencies including Fresno Center for New Americans.

The City's Refugee Housing Liaison will be located in City Hall in the Housing and Community Development Division of the Planning and Development Department.
