Mayor Swearengin to Present Recycling Awards

The City of Fresno will present the seventh annual Mayor’s Business Recycling Awards to seven winners during the Fresno City Council meeting on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 8:30 a.m.

The Mayor’s Business Recycling Awards were created to publicly recognize commercial businesses in the City of Fresno that actively support recycling in the workplace. Winners of the Mayor’s Business Recycling Awards must demonstrate a minimum of 50% waste diversion, while Zero Waste winners must divert at least 90% of their company’s waste.

“The City of Fresno is making huge strides in reducing the amount of waste we send to the landfill,” said Patrick Wiemiller, director of Public Utilities for the City of Fresno. “These businesses are a large contribution to the City’s success and, in addition to preserving our environment, good recycling practices help businesses to reduce overall costs and promote efficient business practices.”

The following are the 2011 Mayor’s Recycling Award Winners. Their efforts have greatly enhanced the City’s efforts to achieve 75% waste diversion.
