07/06/04  Tulare Street To Be Closed To Replace Water Main
FRESNO, CA (July 6 , 2004) Starting Friday, July 9, 2004, crews will begin the replacement of a 12-inch water main in Tulare Street between Van Ness and “O” Street in Downtown Fresno. Major construction is scheduled for completion by mid-August, with intermittent lane closures scheduled for later in August when water service connections are transferred over to the new water main. The original water main was installed in 1936 and requires replacement in order to maintain adequate water service and fire protection to Downtown Fresno. >more

07/02/04  FAX Begins New Silver Sundays Program
FRESNO, CA (July 2 , 2004) Fresno Area Express (FAX) will introduce its new Silver Sundays Program beginning on Sunday, July 11, 2004 . This program has been created to provide all area seniors who are 62 years of age or older with unlimited Sunday access on FAX fixed route buses. The program will be in effect every Sunday and eligible riders need only present proof of age by showing identification including, but not limited to a Driver’s License, Medicare Card, FAX Senior ID Card, etc. >more

06/24/04  African Cat Leaps Its Way To Chaffee Zoo
FRESNO, CA (June 24, 2004) The Chaffee Zoological Gardens received a 4 year-old male Serval cat on May 18, 2004 from the Racine Zoo in Wisconsin . The Serval cat is one of 28 species of small to medium-sized African wild cats. Appropriately named Tamba (which means “leap” in Swahili), this slender African Savanna cat has remarkably long legs and is known to be a good climber and an excellent leaper. >more

06/17/04  Road Project To Close Major Sections Of Copper Avenue
FRESNO, CA (June 17, 2004) Thanks to a cooperative effort between 5 major developers (Gary McDonald, De Young Communities, The McCaffrey Group, Leo Wilson Inc., Copper River Ranch LLC) and the City of Fresno, the installation of new sewer, water, and storm drain mains will begin Thursday, June 24, 2004 on Copper Avenue between Friant Road and the Chestnut Avenue alignment. Upon the completion of the underground utilities, crews will construct street improvements along Copper Avenue with curbs, gutters, sidewalks, paving and raised concrete median islands. >more

05/25/04  Traffic Signal Project To Close Lanes On Tulare Street
FRESNO, CA (May 25, 2004) The City of Fresno Public Works Department currently has a project under construction to install railroad preemption at the intersection of “R” and Tulare Street . The railroad tracks are located approximately 350 feet from the intersection. When completed, the traffic signal will be able to switch to an all red flashing light operation during train crossings. >more

05/20/04  Streetscape Project To Close Cedar Avenue To Through Traffic At Shields Avenue
FRESNO, CA (May 20, 2004) Starting Monday, May 24, 2004 , crews will begin construction on the Cedar-Shields Streetscape Project. This is a $700,000 beautification project funded by the Redevelopment Agency of the City of Fresno . It includes decorative intersection paving at Cedar and Shields, as well as landscaping improvements along Cedar Avenue between Dayton and Princeton , and landscaping improvements along Shields Avenue between Cedar and Freeway 168. >more
