07/17/13  City of Fresno Receives Prestigious Federal Arts Grant for Fulton Mall’s Mariposa Plaza
Fresno, CA – Mayor Ashley Swearengin today announced that the City of Fresno has been awarded a $150,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) “Our Town” program to work with local arts organizations and downtown stakeholders to invigorate Mariposa Plaza as the central destination and gathering place in downtown Fresno.The “Mariposa Plaza Activation Project” will provide arts and landscape design improvements to the public plaza and “Free Speech” stage area at the intersection of Mariposa and Fulton. The improvements will make cultural gatherings and performances more enjoyable to attend and easier and less expensive to produce. >more

FRESNO --The City of Fresno Disability Advisory Commission (DAC) is accepting nominations for its 5th annual Achievement Awards. The DAC will recognize individuals and organizations in Fresno for excellence in representing, collaborating with or serving individuals with disabilities. Recipients will be honored in October 2013, coinciding with Disability Awareness Month.Award recipients will be selected from the following three award categories: Individual Organization City of Fresno Employee or Department Award recipients will be recognized for achievement in one or more of the following areas: Improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities; Advocacy for issues pertaining to individuals with disabilities; Volunteerism that has a positive impact on individuals with disabilities; Development of new programs or services impacting individuals with disabilities; Customer service to individuals with disabilities that is above and beyond the standard; Innovation or Entrepreneurship by an individual with a disability or that has a positive impact on individuals with disabilities >more

06/26/13  Fulton Mall Artwork Removed for Restoration
FRESNO – Assistant City Manager Bruce Rudd today announced that three pieces of artwork on the Fulton Mall have been temporarily removed from the Fulton Mall for restoration work because of damage related to wire and/or metal theft.“Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that we have been forced to move artwork at the Mall as a result of vandalism and/or metal theft,” Rudd said. “In this case, we are experiencing some of the same issues related to metal and wire theft that is impacting the entire community. >more
