03/27/08  Public Forum On Fresno’s Urban Forest
The City of Fresno’s Planning and Development Department and Tree Fresno are co-sponsoring a free public forum on Fresno’s Urban Forest, Wednesday April 2, 2008 from 4-5:30 pm in the City Council Chambers, 2600 Fresno Street. The event, “Fresno Green: Identifying and Preserving the Urban Forest” will also serve as a joint workshop for the City’s Planning and Historic Preservation Commissions.The visionary “Fresno Green: The City of Fresno’s Strategy for Achieving Sustainability,” introduced last year by Mayor Alan Autry, includes provisions that address the importance of trees for shade, air quality, historic and aesthetic values. >more

03/14/08  Local Koi Enthusiasts Make Donation To Woodward Park’s Shinzen Japanese Garden
The City of Fresno Department of Parks, After School,Recreation and Community Services (PARCS) is pleased to inform the community that Fresno’s Shinzen Japanese Garden at Woodward Park is once again bursting with the vibrant colors of Koi thanks to the generosity of Paul Evert and local Koi enthusiasts. A recent donation has increased the number of Koi by 53 fish, just in time for the busy spring and summer months when the park experiences an increased number of visitors who appreciate the beauty that the Shinzen Japanese Garden affords. The donation of Koi was made from a private ranch of local Koi enthusiast Paul Evert. >more

03/07/08  Call for Applicants To Complete District 4 Term of Office
Council members met this past Tuesday, March 4th to discuss the options available to fill the District 4 seat that will be available when Council member Larry Westerlund reports for active military duty April 25, 2008. The person selected will complete Westerlund’s term of office (through December 31, 2008) or until his return from duty. An ad hoc committee was formed to review potential applicants, including Council President Blong Xiong, Council member Larry Westerlund, Fresno Greater Area Chamber member Ruth Evans, John Hudson from Building Trades, and League of Women Voters member Janet Ryan. >more

02/19/08  The City of Fresno and Central California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Partner to Promote the Municipal Restoration Zone
The City of Fresno and the Central California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will be announcing that they are teaming up to highlight the benefits of the Municipal Restoration Zone (MRZ) to local businesses. This partnership is made possible by a $25,000 Community Development Block Grant. The MRZ allows new or qualified expanding businesses within the zone boundaries to obtain refunds of business license fees, reductions of building permit fees, and refunds of sales and/or property taxes, in addition to the initiatives already in place as part of the Federal Empowerment Zone and State Enterprise Zone. >more

For the fifth consecutive year, Fresno Yosemite International enjoyed a historic number of passengers flowing through the airport. A record 1,318,483 passengers traveled through FYI in 2007, exceeding passenger traffic in 2006 by 3.13% - a prior record at 1,281,268 passengers. >more

01/25/08  City Of Fresno Will Host Forum On Crucial Water Issues And Needs
Water issues and problems that seem to constantly multiply in their number and complexity will be in the spotlight of a Water Forum to be hosted by the City of Fresno on Friday, February 1. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. “The City of Fresno is in the midst of many of these situations and Fresno residents stand to be affected by water-related decisions that are in the process of being made,” said Alan Autry, Mayor of Fresno. “This forum will help inform elected officials and key staff members from Central California’s cities and counties on water issues and what they mean to the people we serve >more

01/23/08  City Seeks Community Input On Transit Oriented Development Project
The City of Fresno and ROEM Development Corporation will be hosting community meetings to solicit public input and comments on the soon to be developed Transit Village. This progressive project will be located on Kings Canyon Road between Peach and Adler in southeast Fresno. The first of two meetings will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2008, with a second to be scheduled in April. >more

01/19/08  Kelly Trevino Elected to California Association of Enterprise Zones Board of Directors
Kelly Trevino, Incentive Zone Manager for the City of Fresno Economic Development Department, was recently elected to the California Association of Enterprise Zones (CAEZ) Board of Directors. As the only non-incumbent elected to the Board, Kelly brings a fresh perspective reinforced by over seven years of economic development and local government experience and over five years of experience with the Enterprise Zone program. The CAEZ is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed in 1990. >more
