11/13/08  Youth Leadership Symposium Designed To Inspire Fresno's Future Leaders
The Parks, After School, Recreation & Community Services Department (PARCS) would like to invite the media to attend Fresno’s Youth Leadership Symposium: City County All Stars on Saturday, November 15, 2008 from 9am to Noon in the Council Chambers at City Hall. This event will bring together 200 aspiring youth leaders from 10 Fresno High Schools, 12 Fresno middle schools and many other schools from throughout Fresno County. This event provides the students an opportunity to meet and be mentored by local leaders and inspire them to become future agents of change in their community. >more

10/10/08  More Good Financial News for City of Fresno
The City of Fresno has been awarded $1.5million in Cal Home Program funds through the State’s Prop 1C funds. The City is excited to hear of this award, which will be used to help strengthen our neighborhoods and ensure that families live in safe and decent housing. $750,000 of the award will be used for mortgage assistance financing, and the other $750,000 will be set aside for housing repairs for low income homeowners >more

10/10/08  City Of Fresno Holds Community Forum To Prioritize HUD Funding
The City of Fresno will be holding a ‘listening session’ on Tuesday, October 14th from 3 to 7 PM at the Valdez Hall in downtown Fresno to solicit ideas and information for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently announced the award of $10.9 million to Fresno, with the intent to assist communities by stabilizing neighborhoods impacted by high foreclosures. >more

10/09/08  City Files to Halt Excessive County Fees
The City of Fresno has joined a number of Fresno County cities in filing a lawsuit to halt the Fresno County practice of charging excessive administrative fees for the collection of property taxes. The excessive charges vary according to each City with the City of Fresno experiencing a $430,000 annual overcharge. More than 40 cities in Los Angeles County have filed a similar lawsuit against Los Angeles County. >more

09/23/08  City Files to Prevent Prisoner Release by County
To forestall any future releases of prisoners from the County Jail based on budget concerns, the City of Fresno today (Monday) filed suit in Fresno County Superior Court against Sheriff Margaret Mims and the County of Fresno. According to City Attorney James C. Sanchez, the suit seeks a court order specifying state judicial processes to be followed prior to any budget-related inmate releases. >more

09/17/08  Redevelopment Agency Announces EAH Housing to Build Multi-Generational Affordable Housing in Fresno
Last night the Fresno City Council approved selection of EAH Housing as the developer of a new affordable housing community at Annadale and Elm in Southwest Fresno. This new housing community, which will include approximately 100 units of family housing co-located with about 130 senior units, will provide an innovative “Multi-Generational Healthy Living Community” model for affordable housing in Fresno. This model will enable seniors to “age in place,” and in many cases to live right next door to their extended family. “EAH Housing provides an excellent example of fostering community partnership and active citizenship,” said Councilmember Cynthia Sterling who represents District 3 on the City Council >more

The City of Fresno has made significant improvement on the latest Milken Institute list of America’s ‘Top Performing Cities.’ The annual index is widely considered a snapshot of where jobs are being created and sustained. Fresno jumped from number 66 all the way to number 47 in this year’s rankings based on improvements in technology, energy and trade sectors. >more

Mayor Alan Autry is seeking interested applicants for a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) board who will be responsible for overseeing the distribution of funding and use of public, education cable and governmental programming. The JPA Board will initially consist of five members. Three members will be appointed by the Mayor of Fresno and confirmed by the Fresno City Council. >more
